Creating Trend Zones
Let’s talk beyond stopping the scroll on Airbnb, and take it further. What creating capture-worthy moments can do for your guests and how fun it could be for you to incorporate in your personal home! Often called “Trend Zones”, having accent walls, stylized bookshelves, or wallpaper are places around the home to catch the eyes of the Airbnb peruser. However, once in the home, these moments make the home more designed & elevated, offer a nice backdrop for photos or zoom calls, and give you, as an owner, a place to explore some emerging trends.
1. The Accent Wall:
If budget is a concern, but you still want to play with color and trends, try painting one wall behind the bed or tv. These locations can anchor the space and provide often much needed color and typically only cost a few hundred dollars. One step further, add wainscotting or a unique wood design. Wood brings in warmth and elevates the space, but can run a bit more depending on your installer. If you’re feeling extra bold go with a custom mural or playful wallpaper. Murals and wallpaper typically start around $1000 and go up from there, but bring tremendous value to your rental.
2. The Stylized Bookcase or Credenza:
Fearful of a bold wall statement, but want to try out other emerging trends? Fill a bookcase with colorful books, layer unique local finds, or rotate seasonal decor. The books can be visual or perhaps filled with gems about the area, or some of your favorite reads. Add your unique local finds to a shopable link, so guests can have the option to take something home. Or if your property is a popular seasonal destination, rotate the decor to suite the time of year or holiday.
3. Backyard:
As the seasons change, the desire to be inside or outside shifts. In Arizona we experience a major shift outdoors in the winter and spring, and thus the perfect time for the backyard to shine. We also know how quickly outdoor items can be sun or weather damaged, so this area is an excellent space to try some trends. Go for that bright fun colored umbrella or throw pillow, try out some patterned cushions, we are hear for it.
5. Bedrooms:
Although we will always recommend white soft hotel-like duvet sets for the bedding, everywhere else in the bedroom is fare game. Changing out decorative pillows and throw blankets are an affordable way to test a trendy color or texture. Lamps and light fixtures are the jewelry of the bedroom and are always an exciting place to experiment. Painting a mural around the bed or using something unique behind the bed as a headboard can offer an unexpected surprise.
5. Try this In Your Home:
Trying out trends isn’t just for the vacation rental. It’s important to re-fall in love with your home. In the age of HGTV and their barrage of home renovation shows, we can get depressed about our unchanging home. Instead of dreaming about those big changes, start small but impactful. Swap your pillows, get crafty with some oversized art, rearrange your bookshelves into a rainbow pattern, paint some accent walls with this years biggest hits, and find a way to express a cool trend in your own personal way. As designers we can’t help but instinctively do this all the time, but we encourage you to give it a shot! Or call us, and we can spruce up your home or vacation rental in no time!
